O3 allows users to customize many data displays by grouping, sorting, and coloring data. In this example, we will be applying custom grouping, sorting, and formatting rules to an IWP Bar Chart.

Getting Started

In this example, we will use the chart below to demonstrate how to group several data points, then apply custom sorting and color formatting.

Formatting Rules

To access formatting rules, select the Action menu in the upper right-hand corner of the chart.

Select Settings.

The widget settings dialog window is displayed as shown below.

Select the Settings icon beside the desired group.

The Formatting Rules dialog window opens and presents you with a list of unique values for the selected data field.

Grouping Data

In order to group data, you must first create the group by clicking Add Group.

In the resulting dialog box, enter the desired name for the group and click OK. In our example, we have named the new group "Open".

Once the group is created, you can drag and drop fields from the "Available Values" list onto the group.

Note that you can also drag and drop fields into the list of Formatted Values without adding them to a group if you want to apply other options, such as sorting or color.

Coloring Data

To color a data group or value, click the paint brush icon on the data row, and choose a color from the color palette.

Sorting Data

To sort data in a particular order, use the Sort Order drop down.

Several data sorting options are available, including:

  • Name Ascending - data will be sorted alphabetically, in ascending order

  • Name Descending - data will be sorted alphabetically, in descending order

  • Manual - data will be sorted according to the Formatting Rules configuration

  • Value Ascending - data will be sorted numerically, in ascending order

  • Value Descending - data will be sorted numerically, in descending order

If you choose to sort the data manually, you can drag and drop the formatted values into the preferred order.

Finishing Up

In order to apply the Formatting Rules, select Save on the Formatting Rules screen.

Select Save on the Widget Settings screen.

After saving, the chart will refresh and display with the newly configured rules applied.
