This article explains the various features of O3 Bar Chart widgets and how they can be used to display data on dashboards.

Basics

Bar charts are available for many data streams in O3. The example below is an IWP Bar Chart, which, by default, shows the number of IWPs in each configured IWP Status.

To configure the bar chart, select the Action menu in the upper right-hand corner of the chart.

Select Settings.

The widget settings dialog window is displayed as shown below.

Common Settings

  • Title - allows you to adjust the title that is displayed on top of the dashboard widget

  • Primary Group - select the primary data grouping that is represented on the argument axis (typically, the horizontal axis) of the widget

  • Secondary Group - select the secondary data grouping that is represented on the argument axis of the widget

  • Value - select the measurement that will be represented on the value axis (typically, the vertical axis) of the widget

Changing the Primary Group

To change the Primary Group, click in the Search field below the Primary Group heading.

Click on a group name to select it. For this example, we will select Area. After saving, the chart adjusts to show the number of IWPs by Area.

See Grouping, Sorting, and Formatting Data for information on how to further customize data groups.

Adding a Secondary Group

To add a secondary group, click in the Search field below the Secondary Group heading.

Click on a group name to select it. For this example, we will select Area. After saving, the chart adjusts to show the number of IWPs by Status by Area.

By default, the chart shows the secondary grouping as a stacked bar. To show a separate bar for each status withing the Area grouping, return to the widget settings screen and uncheck the Stack Secondary Group box.

After saving, the chart adjusts as shown below.

Bar Chart Options

On the widget settings dialog, click the Bar Chart Options heading to open the panel.

Common Settings

  • Default Color - allows you select the default bar color displayed when no Secondary Grouping is selected, and no other formatting rules are applied

  • Legend Position - allows you to move the legend to the left, top, right, or bottom of the widget, or hide it entirely by selecting None

  • Font Size - adjust the font size from small, medium, or large

  • Rotate Chart - rotate the chart so that the vertical axis is the argument axis, and the horizontal axis is the value axis

  • Rotate Overlapping Labels - when the chart is resized so that the argument axis labels would overlap if displayed horizontally, this setting allows those labels to be rotated 45 degrees to improve readability

  • Show Data Labels - by default, mousing over a bar segment will display a tool tip containing the value measured by that segment. This setting will place a data label over each bar segment, so that the value is visible without requiring a mouse-over

The chart below has been configured with "Rotate Chart" and "Show Data Labels" turned on.

Filters

See Filtering Widget Data to learn how to apply filters to O3 dashboard widgets.

Drill Down Options

The Bar Chart widget also supports the ability to customize the drill down option. This determines to where you will navigate within O3 when you click within the bar chart.

Dashboard

The Dashboard option allows you to select a dashboard to which you will navigate when you click within the bar chart.

Source Data

This is the default option within settings. Selecting Source Data will take you to the source data associated with the bar chart when you click within the bar chart. You can also specify a layout type to further customize your view.

Dynamic

The Dynamic option allows you to further explore the data within the bar chart visualization itself.

With the Dynamic drill down option enabled, you are prompted to select an additional grouping category when you click on a bar segment. Additionally, you can choose View Source Data to be redirected to the source data, or Go Back to cancel the drill down function.

In the example below, we clicked on a bar segment representing the intersection of Area 1, and IWP Status "In Development", then chose to group by CWA.

The drill down filters are displayed as breadcrumbs at the top of the widget. In order to go back to a previous drill down grouping, simply click the breadcrumb value that corresponds to that grouping. Clicking Start will reset the bar chart to it's "as configured" state.

None

Selecting the drill down option of None disables the drill down option within the bar chart all together.
