What are Roles?
In O3, roles define your level of access within a project. They can be created at the system or plant level, meaning you need system or plant admin access.
Navigation
System Admin
Click on the (1) cogwheel on the left side of your screen > (2) User Admin > (3) Roles.
Plant Admin
Click on the cogwheel on the left side of your screen, then find your plant in the grid.
Then click on the Roles tab.
Creating Roles
Click on the + sign in the top-right corner of your grid.
Note that system admins can assign roles to multiple plants, while roles created at the plant level will be assigned automatically.
The Roles Matrix
When you're done entering your role's info, click Save. You'll be brought to the role's matrix.
Here you can define what your teammates have access to, as well as their level of access.
While the matrix is long, you'll notice the permissions are similar for each item. We outline the more common permissions below.
Name | Definition |
View | Able to view the given item in O3; for work packages, this refers to their respective grid and Detailed Form |
Create | Able to create new entries of the given item; note that View access is also required |
Update | Able to update existing entries of the given item; note that View access is also required |
Delete | Able to delete existing entries of the given item; you will want to be selective in assigning this permission |
Import | Able to create, update, or delete entries of the given item via import |
You'll notice Entity Types (like Installation Work Packages) have additional permissions.
Name | Definition |
View, Create, Update Constraints | Able to view, create, and/or update Constraints for that |
View, Create, Update Approvals | Able to view, create, and/or update Approvals for that |
View, Create, Update Development Steps | Able to view, create, and/or update Development Steps for that |
View, Create, Update Deliverables | Able to view, create, and/or update Deliverables for that |
Generate Detail Report | Able to download the Detail Report for that |
Note that certain permissions (like Generate Detail Report or View, Edit Scaffold Requests) are only supported for certain Entity Types.
When you're done, click Save Changes at the top.
You can edit the role's info and permissions by clicking on the Action Menu icon > Edit.
