While this article applies to most Entities in O3, we will be using IWPs as an example.

Navigation

New Navigation

Expand the navigation menu and click on (1) Workface Planning > (2) IWPs.

Classic Navigation

Expand the navigation menu and click on (1) Work Packages > (2) Installation (IWPs).

Both options will bring you to the Installation Work Packages grid.

Creating Constraints

Select an Installation Work Package (IWP) in the grid and go to the Constraints tab.

To create a constraint, click on the + above the Constraints list.

This will bring up the Constraint Details form.

By default, you will need to provide a Constraint Type and Name. We recommend assigning the constraint to someone and giving it a Due Date.

Note that constraints can also be automatically created whenever a work package is initialized or when an Entity moves into a specific status.

Managing Constraints

To manage a constraint, click on its pencil icon.

Since constraints are actions, they follow our action framework, meaning

  • They can be assigned to Team Boards.

  • They can be broken out into subtasks.

  • Informal action approvals can be created to ensure the action is revied before it's closed out.

Where constraints differ from our other actions is their statuses at the bottom.

  • In Progress - The constraint is actively being worked on

  • Needs Verification - The constraint requires verification before being closed out

  • Complete - The constraint is done and can be closed out

  • N/A - the constraint is not applicable at the moment. This means the constraint will be treated as a soft constraint.
