While this article applies to most Entities in O3, we will be using IWPs as an example.

Navigation

New Navigation

Expand the navigation menu and click on (1) Workface Planning > (2) IWPs.

Classic Navigation

Expand the navigation menu and click on (1) Work Packages > (2) Installation (IWPs).

Both options will bring you to the Installation Work Packages grid.

Associating Data in O3

Click into an Installation Work Package (IWP) in the grid and go to the Associations tab.

This shows you all the different data that's associated to the current work package.

To create an Association, click on the + next to the desired Entity Type.

You'll notice there are different types of Associations we can make.

The Different Types of Relationships

Associations

Associations are the most basic type of relationship in O3. This means the Entity is accessible from the Associations tab.

Predecessors

When an Entity is associated as a Predecessor, a Predecessor constraint is created.

Predecessor constraints behave differently from normal constraints. When the Predecessor Entity (in this case, an IWP) is moved into a Complete or Closed Out state, the constraint is closed out automatically. Predecessor constraints are typically not closed out manually.

Successors

Choosing the Successor Associations means the current Entity will be a Predecessor to the Successor Entity being chosen.

The Associations Grid

While you can see Associations per Entity via the Association tab, you can see project-wide Associations by viewing the Associations grid.

For new navigators, go to (1) Auditing > (2) Associations.

While classic navigators will go to (1) Tools > (2) Associations.

The Associations grid shows you Associations across the entire project.

You can group and filter the grid to show you Associations between two types of Entities, like Drawings that have been associated to IWPs.
