How are Materials automatically added to my packages?
When configured properly, O3 has the ability to automatically consume Material Requirements from the Project Bill of Materials (BOM) as Components are added to packages. If your package appears to be missing Material Requirements, use the following steps to troubleshoot your configuration:
Are your Material Requirements present in the Bill of Materials? If the Materials have not been added to the BOM, they can not be added to any Work Packages. Navigate to Project Information > Bill of Materials and verify that the Materials are there. When a Component is added to a Work Package, O3 searches the BOM to identify any Materials where the Component Identifier matches either the Tag Number or Lookup Key of the Component. If the Materials are located, take note if they are associated with any Drawings by adding the 'Drawing' column to the BOM grid view. Drawing associations will be considered in subsequent troubleshooting steps.
Does your Work Package have a Purpose? Material Requirements will not be consumed by packages that do not have a Purpose.
Does the Purpose have an appropriate Material Creation Trigger? Materials can be consumed when components are added to the package, or when execution tasks are created. If the Material Creation Trigger is 'Do not consume materials', no materials will be consumed.
Does the Purpose have any Material Filters configured? In the 'Component Materials' section of the Work Package Purpose configuration, you can optionally specify a set of filters to apply when consuming Materials. Only Material Requirements that match these filters will be consumed to the package.
Does the Purpose have any Drawing Types configured? In some cases, you may only wish to consume Material Requirements from specific types of Drawings. Verify that any Material Requirements associated with Drawings in the Bill of Materials exist on Drawings of the specified types.
Has your configuration changed since you added components to the package? If so, use the 'Update Component Data' option in the work package header to verify the Material Requirements using the current configuration.
