What is the Bill of Materials?
The Bill of Materials (BoM) is a list of material requirements for your project. Each requirement is associated to a Component Identifier and a Drawing and you can easily see which materials have been allocated to an IWP via the Is Added to IWP field.
Updating the Bill of Materials
There are two different ways of updating the BoM. Note that both ways require importing data into O3. You can learn more about importing data here.
Full Update
If you're importing your BoM for the first time, you'll want to use the Full Update. You can find an import template for a BoM - Full Update at the bottom of this article.
Note: you may want to use the BoM - Full Update if you already have your material requirements populated. This will clear the BoM for the Source listed in the import file. Be caution when conducting a Full Update. If you want to create additional material requirements without wiping existing ones, you will do a BoM - Partial Update.
Partial Update
A BoM Partial Update can be used to add new material requirements or update existing ones without wiping material requirements. You can find an import template for a BoM - Partial Update at the bottom of this article.
The Material Catalog
The Material Catalog shows the different types of material that will be used on the project.
You can find the Material Catalog under (1) Procurement > (2) Material Catalog if you're using the New Navigation.
Or (1) Project Information > (2) Material Category if you're using the classic navigation.
Your Material Catalog is automatically populated via a BoM update, though you can create Material Catalog entries by clicking on the + sign above the grid.
Materials can be associated to Drawings via a Material Catalog entry. When certain material are associated to an IWP, the associated Drawings will be pulled in as well.
