Work Packaging from the Model

Video 1: Navigation

1. Go to the Models grid and choose a model.

In the left-side menu, click on Project Information > Models.

Then choose a model in the grid.

Note: your screen might look different than the ones above due to your permissions.

2. Use the Orbit tool to rotate the model.

The Orbit tool is the first option on the left. Click on it and drag around the model to rotate it.

Note: this tool is selected by default when entering the model.

3. Use the Pan tool to adjust the model's position.

The Pan tool is just to the right of Orbit. Drag around the model to change its position.

You can also use the click and drag the middle mouse wheel to pan around the model.

4. Measure the component's edge using the Measure tool.

Click on the ruler icon > Distance.

Drop two endpoints along the edge of the component to measure it.

Note: you can use Measure Settings to change the Unit Type.

5. Adjust the Reverse mouse zoom direction, Scroll speed, and Drag speed settings.

The Settings tool is marked by a gear.

  1. Enabling Reverse mouse zoom direction will change the scroll direction from inverted to standard.

  2. Adjusting the slider for Scroll speed will determine how quickly you zoom into the model.

  3. Adjusting the slider for Drag speed will determine how quickly you pan around the model.


Video 2: The Model Browser

1. Change to the Construction Components Data Source, then back to Workface Planning.

Click on the dropdown at the top of the browser and choose Construction Components.

Repeat the steps above for switching back to Workface Planning.

2. Find a No Value work package and isolate its components in the model.

Expand the model tree and find a IWP: No Value package, then click on the eye icon next to it.

All unpackaged items within the CWP are highlighted in light blue in the model.

3. Apply a filter to your Model Browser.

Click on the gear icon at the top of the browser and expand IWP Filters.

Then enter your filter.

Your model tree should include less items.

4. Save your filters as a layout.

  1. Click on the dropdown.

  2. Choose Save As New Layout.

You can access this layout, and previously saved ones, by going to Browse All Layouts > My Layouts.

5. Share your layout with a team member.

In the dropdown, go to Share Layout.

Note: you must have a saved layout chosen for this option to be available.

Choose who to share the layout with.


Video 3: Adding Components to a Work Package

1. Select components in the model.

There are multiple ways to select components in the model:

  1. Left-click a single component if you only want to choose one.

  2. SHIFT-click multiple components to add more than one.

  3. You can also press and hold CTRL + click to drag the box over all the components you want to select.

You can SHIFT-click selected components to deselect them individually, or Esc to deselect all of them.

2. Choose the work package type you want to create.

Go to the top of the model and change the Association Type.

Note: this will change which work packages are displayed in the Associations tab.

3. Add the components to a new work package.

Click on the + sign above the model > Create New.

You can also add new components to an IWP by changing the Association Type to CWP.

Then right-clicking a CWP in the Model Browser and choosing Create IWP with Selected Components.

4. Repeat #1 and add the components to an existing work package.

Click on the + sign again. This time, select a work package from the grid.

You can also add components to an existing IWP by going to the Package tab in the Details pane and clicking Choose IWP.

Then selecting an IWP in the grid.

And choosing Add Selected Components to Package.

You can also choose a work package by selecting an IWP in the Model Viewer.

5. Capture a Model Shot from the model.

Find your work package under the Associations tab in the Details pane.

Then click on the camera icon next to it.

You can see the Model Shot you took by clicking on the work package's number and scrolling to the bottom of the Summary tab.

6. View an IWP's data from the model.

Select an IWP via the Package tab or the model tree.

Under Package Details, you can see the IWP's data, including its Estimated Hours and Execution Tasks.
